THE ICAF ANNOUNCES ITS 4TH ARTS OLYMPIAD (2009-2012)

The International Child Art Foundation announced that the 4th Arts Olympiad will be launched globally on July 4, 2009 and that the World Children's Festival to honor the Arts Olympiad winners will be held in Washington, DC in June 2011. Commencing in classrooms all across the globe with structured lesson plans, the 4th Arts Olympiad will promote the "artist-athlete" ideal of a creative mind and a healthy body. After a series of classroom activities, schools will organize art competitions on the theme, My Favorite Sport; and students will be involved in the selection of the school entries - one outstanding painting and digital artwork. Distinguished juries comprised of well-known artists and educators will select the Arts Olympiad winners from each U.S. state and every participating country. It is anticipated that more than 5 million children ages 8 to 12 in at least 100 countries will produce art under the 4th Arts Olympiad, a free global program. The Arts Olympiad sparks national and international movements to advance children's creative development and encourage them to embrace lifelong creativity. The specific goals are:

Place the nurturing of creativity on center stage for educators and policymakers
Break stereotypes by promoting the "artist-athlete" ideal of a creative mind and healthy body
Reduce childhood obesity risks by inspiring non-athletically inclined children to visualize their favorite sport and engage in physical activity
Showcase children's talents and creativity to boost their self-esteem and foster leadership development
Develop bonds of empathy and understanding through collaboration and co-creation involving the world's future leaders at the World Children's Festival
Advance U.S. cultural diplomacy through a child-centered program, independent of U.S. government funding
The ICAF was founded in 1997 as the national art and creativity organization for American children and the international art organization for children around the world in order to harness their imagination for positive social change.
